I KNEW I was on to something

It's no secret that I have tried very hard to find humor in this crazy journey called infertility. For me, it has been an invaluable activity in order to stay somewhat sane over the last several years.

And, apparently, science is proving that I'm on to something. Researchers in Israel studied a group of women going through IVF and they tested the hypothesis that laughter, a "natural non-stressor" could help women get pregnant more easily. See article. And, it worked.

Of course, in this study, they sent in clowns to the hospital on transfer days. I am not a fan of clowns in the least, nor are most women of child-bearing age that I know. I'd much, much rather watch Modern Family or How I Met Your Mother to get my giggle on.

And, I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend my funny, funny book, The Inadequate Conception, as an option for laughing that embryo into place.

I'm eager to see where this new research is headed. Can you imagine waking up to Jack Black or Ricky Gervais at the foot of your bed? Sure beats more progesterone gel up the ying-yang or sticking your feet over your head.

  1. Here from ICLW and I'm totally on board with this realm of thinking. There really isn't anything better for the soul than a good belly laugh and although I have no idea the science behind it, I have to believe that its good for your lady parts too, right?

  2. Clowns?!?! *shudder* They are #3 on my list of fears and I have to tell you they would more likely increase my anxiety than humor.

Makes me wish I had watched more comedies during my IUI cycles. Oh well. I'm making up for it I'm on season 2 of The Big Bang Theory.

  4. I read about the same study. Can I choose which comedian I want to give my a bedside visit? If so my nomination is definitely for Danny Bhoy (gorgeous Indian with a Scottish accent and a wicked sense of humour, how can you go wrong?) Happy ICLW!

  5. Here from ICLW! OMG, clowns? I can't imagine anything that's LESS likely to make my stress level go down. To paraphrase Roger Ebert, in his review of Patch Adams, if someone came into my hospital room wearing a bright red rubber nose and bedpans on his feet, I'd call the cops. Congrats on the book! I look forward to checking it out.
